Highlights of the project
Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger Medien extends cooperation with PEIQ
Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger Medien (a DuMont company) is expanding its collaboration with PEIQ and uses – in addition to editorial work – PEIQ's modules for page planning, advert make-up and production control and monitoring for its titles Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger, Kölnische Rundschau and EXPRESS. By consolidating the systems, the complexity of the interfaces as well as costs can be greatly reduced. The next planned steps are the use of digital asset management and moving into the cloud. In this interview, Jörn Ebeling, the CEO of DuMont Media Solutions, explains the background of the project.
Jörn Ebeling in the interview
PEIQ: Mister Ebeling, why have you expanded your collaboration with PEIQ?
Jörn Ebeling: Following the sale of our shareholdings, we put the system landscape of our regional media to the test. We want to position ourselves for the digital transformation and are focusing on a clear digital-first orientation. To achieve this, we want a system that efficiently handles the entire print channel. As one of the few modern providers, PEIQ offers a lean PRINT full stack and is therefore the ideal partner for us. The consolidation of functionalities is an important step towards more efficient collaboration. This sets us in a good position for mastering future challenges.
PEIQ: Which PEIQ modules are used?
Jörn Ebeling: Usually you have 3-4 systems for editorial production, page planning, advert make-up and DAM, which you have to connect with interfaces by yourself in a cumbersome way. So far, we have only used PEIQ's editorial production. Now we’re adding page planning, advert make-up and DAM from PEIQ, so we get everything from a single source. This is not only efficient, but also more cost-effective.
PEIQ: Is moving into the cloud the next step?
Jörn Ebeling: The topic of cloud is very important to us – especially because PEIQ provides a true cloud solution and has so much expert knowledge in this area that no other major provider has. What do we gain from this? IT security with regard to a disaster incident or hacker attack, cost savings in terms of TCO and a drastic reduction in the complexity of systems in our house.
PEIQ: Thank You.
Reducing costs and complexity
The system landscape for print production in publishing houses is often highly complex with many interfaces and inefficient workflows. By switching to PEIQ PRINT in the cloud, this multitude of systems can be consolidated. This reduces technical complexity enormously and lowers costs. For example by working in just one system, the production process of a newspaper page at Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger Medien can be shortened from 8 to 2 work steps.
Before consolidation of the PRINT stack (illustrative)
– numerous interfaces
– inefficient workflows
– high costs
After consolidation of the PRINT stack (illustrative)
+ simplified processes+ less interfaces
+ real cloud product
+ cheap TCO
